I was quoted, by the only lexus dealer in dayton, 250 dollars to do a simple AHC fluid flush...that seems unbelievably high. How much have y'all paid to have it done?

It's kind of dangerous in that once you crack the bleeder valve for the globe at each wheel, that corner of the vehicle will instantly drop until all the weight rests on the springs (with AHC, part of the vehicle's weight is supported by the shocks). Since the bleeder valve is located up on the rail above the running boards, you have to stick you head below the running board and look up just to see the bleeder valve. You can't do this while bleeding since the vehicle will drop suddenly and crush your skull! You really need a lift to do it safely.
It takes one 2.5L can to flush the globes only, 2 cans to also do the height canister. Last I had it done 3 yrs ago, it was $35/can plus labor, so about $170. The dealer normally does only the globes, so that would be $35 plus 1 hr of labor. I plan to have it done again within a few months.

Does anyone know what the blend of fluid it is, or is it proprietary? Just curious if there is an alternative to what the dealer has. Was quoted $60 for half a gallon. Sounds about right price wise, but waandering if there was anything else before I go spend 60 on fluid that is the same as anything else. We usde to have a Jaguar that had hydraulic suspension. The fluid is nothing but mineral oil with a colorant in it. I do know that Toyotas is clear in color, so maybe thier own blend.

$60 is definitely on the high side. I think I paid something like $25-35 per container. Try your Toyota dealer too. The '06+ Land Cruiser had AHC option. The fluid can be yellowish or pink. Not sure which color is the latest version.

Just had mine done last Friday. Cost 2.7 hrs of labor plus 1 can (2.5L) of fluid. The price of fluid had risen from $35/can to $54/can since Aug '06 when I had it last done. I had both the globes and height canister done.
Also, in case you haven't noticed, the price of Toyota coolant has risen from $20/gal to $30/gal at the Toyota dealer when I changed my coolant last spring. BTW, if you have a '03 or earlier, I recommend changing at 2.5 yr intervals (equivalent to 30K mi if you drive 12K mi/yr). I once waited 3 yrs on my 4runner and the radiator developed internal rust and signs of sludging, and this was using Toyota red w/ purified (not steam distilled) water. Apparently, the corrosion inhibitors only last about 2.5 yrs although the coolant still keeps the engine temps in check. I now only use steam distilled water rather than purified.
