Default charging system warning light won't go off!

My OEM battery on my 2006 LX 470 finally crapped out. Had a new Interstate battery installed. Everything works fine, but the "charging system warning light" on the bottom right hand side of the instrument cluster panel is lit up red and won't go off. Alternator gague is reading in normal limits (1st mark below "14"). I have started and killed the engine several times and driven it several miles hoping the computer would reset and turn the warning light off but it stays on solid (not blinking) when the engine is running. Could it be an alternator problem even though the gauge is reading WNL ? Sams Club installed the battery and said the old one tested bad. Any advice?
