Default extra headphones and headrest dvd player

So I have three kids and two dvd players in the back seat. No problem, just get an extra pair of headphones, right? Maybe not. As I was reading the aftermarket hardest dvd instruction manual, it says the headphones must be directly in front of the dvd player in order to receive the infrared signal. I am curious if it would work anyway, where the middle child would be able to hear the audio from one of the dvd's. Has anyone tried this? I can't be the only one with this problem, lol!

My guess is that any IR wireless headphones will work, but I have never tried adding to an existing system.

May be worth a call to a local car audio/video installer, they may have some experience with this stuff, and may even sell replacement headphones?

Update: we just picked up the car from the body shop (it was damaged in transport after we purchased it) and played with the headphones and dvd players. It looks like the child sitting in the middle is able to listen to either dvd, they just have to select either "A" or "B" on the headphones. This is a huge relief - those dvd players are a Godsend on long trips! Now just need to get another set of headphones...

I think you need a wirless IR headphone, just as mkupchyk mentioned above, a wireless IR headphone will be workable.
If the headrest DVD player has enough headphone jack, I think usually 1- 2 are available, just got another headphone. Speak frankly, I do not suggest that a kid with a long time use of the wired head phone, it would do harm to the kid after a long time.
