Default Windshield Replacement

Anyone had to replace your LX's windshield. I just got a $1200 quote from my Lexus dealer. I'm wondering if anyone chose to go the non OEM route? I don't want to install an inferior product, but $1200 seems excessive.

I had my windshield replaced because of a rock chip that grew into a long crack that impaired my view. I took it to several windshield repair shops and they didn't want to mess with it due to the night vision heads up display. So, I decided to go to the dealer-preferred repair shop. Even at that, it ended up costing $2100. I was sticker shock for me. Luckily, my insurance covered the bulk of the cost since I had a deductible of $500. Regardless, I'd get the OEM version and make sure I get rock chips filled before they get bad.

Yes, i just had my windshield replaced about 2 months ago. You can read about other's experiences on this blog and also iH8Mud's. THis is what i learned.

1. If the dealer uses OEM glass, then it will be about $1200 (for non-nightvision.) I didn't go that route.
2. I had the dealer use after market glass and the windshield was replaced at the dealership, using OEM SEALS, and the cost was $350. BUT..........I had to return to the dealer about 3 more times because there was air coming from the lower part of the windshield at speeds over 65mph. After 3 tries, they caulked along the entire bottom of the windshield, underneath the leaf screen, and now all is fine.

I got my OEM replacement for $900 at a Lexus dealership. I thought that was expensive....
