.......
corporate people...
Believe me I don't want it to be true. All I have been hearing is that Toyota is letting Lexus have it. They're makin more cash off of the LX than the LC and the price difference isn't that great.....

I see..
Actually, now I remember that there were rumors a couple years ago about this too, because Lexus dealers were demanding more LX's. The rumors were about discontinuing the Land Cruiser shifting production to the LX alone. But at the time the cult like following of the Land Cruiser allowed it to stay alive. I guess the cult has broken up and given in to Lexus...

Popular Mechanics and 5.4 liter V8
Latest Popular Mechanics magazine says the new Toyota 4Runner will have the 4.7 liter V8 model (in addition to the 3.4 liter V6). Of course, its luxurious cousin GX470 only roll in 8.
They also mention the "bigger" truck - it's safe to assume they mean the Tundra, Sequoia, and LX - will have 280 hp 5.4 liter V8 as an option. They didn't say when the new engine will come out though.
I wonder how they got the "280 hp" number. I had hoped it will be a 300+ hp engine but I guess Toyota wants to stay true the bulldozer approach: just give me torque.

280HP
Well the 4.7L is good for 245 HP in the Tundra form.. take 245 divided by 4.7 and that is roughly 52HP per liter... then take 52 times 5.4, and it comes to roughly 280HP. I believe this is how they obtained that figure.

True.. but....
Yes, a Sequoia based SUV is too large for the rest of the world.. but, I've read many European magazines that state that our american Land Cruiser itself is also too large, and that it doesn't make sense over the new GX470, Land Cruiser Prado platform... So I believe that the Prado platform can continue on.. Our platform though... could likely be at the end of it's time

Another interesting tidbit...
Over in the GX470 forum, one member noted that the new European version of the GX470 is simply called the Toyota Land Cruiser.. when it was previously called the Land Cruiser 90 or Prado. This goes along with our belief that our larger Land Cruiser/LX platform is going away, replaced with the similar in size GX platform, then followed up with the Sequoia/VX platform as the top truck

Given that the Sequoia-based Lexus uses "VX" symbol, it suggests the LX will live on. I think there's room for the LX in the future. People normally regards the LX as a high-end luxury cruiser. What Lexus may do is push the LX up a nodge in terms of performance and luxury to distance itself from the VX.
Personally, if the LX grows another foot, I think it only adds "barbaric" or "bulkiness" to its image. It also adds complications to parking, drivability.
Luxury means it should only be big enough to carry golf bags, not logs.

pbm317 may be on to something. I just found this article on motorcities.com
The reality is that there is more than one version of what we know as the Land Cruiser. Apparently this Prado derived Land Cruiser is going to replace the Land Cruiser Colorado. There is also a Land Cruiser Amazon - the one we know and love.
Don't take my word for it and don't be lazy, read the article. It has all the info

Serves me right for listening to the liquored up Toyota/Lexus dealers that used to come into my store, especially when I was the one supplying the liquor. Corporations change their "game plan" everyday, it happens.....
But man, you guys must have been bored, I was last in this thread when I was what.........17! Wow can your priorities and interests change in 5 years!
