Default comfort vs sport settings

What noticeable difference I can feel when driving in sport mode vs comfort suspension settings. I dont feel any difference at all. To me, nothing changes in either mode at various speeds I tried. It make me wonder if something is wrong with this system as I cant tell the difference if switch between these modes. How do I verify? I own 2000 lx470.
Also what does the power mode button do (sits above 2nd start) and how do I engage it, and when should I use it. (I want to know the purpose and usage of 2nd start too)

thank you

1. There is a (I think "very") noticeable difference between the comfort and sport modes, the shock dumping/rebound rates change. In the sport mode the truck is stiffer, banks less in turns. The comfort mode tends to swallow the road irregularities more.
Try going off the main road a bit, preferable some easy off-road patch. And try these settings, the difference will be very substantial.

2. The power button changes the automatic transmission shift points, allows you to rev the engine more before shifting. Not a huge difference thought. Use if if this shift mode "feels" better to you, and you don't mind slight increase on fuel consumption.

3. The 2nd gear start might be mildly useful on ice - there is less torque being applies to the wheels, reduced slips. But I personally did not find this to be of much use. Careful throttle moderation achieves just that and more.

i can tell a fairly reasonable difference when im driving, but my passengers often can't, maybe it just depends on how familiar you are with your lx

I tested the sport vs comfort setting on highway going anywhere between 40 to 70 mph. I didnt feel any difference.

No, you will not feel much of a difference on a highway. Try sharper turns, broken roads, off-road preferably.
However, when you have a few people in the truck and drive highway speeds it would be a good idea to move the selector to sport. It will tighten up the responses.

When I use sport mode on uneven pavement or ground I can feel a huge difference. The ride is almost as bouncy as a pickup truck.
My wife drives the truck almost daily. When I'm riding shotgun sometimes I get in first and switch it to sport mode to see if she notices. The look on her face is funny everytime.

Also, check the tire pressure. With these vehicles, overinflated tires throw the control system off. Engineers calculated and programmed a lot of variables that influence and determine ride quality. Do you know what hysteresis is? They do.

It is important to remember about the convenience in which mode you will be more comfortable to ride and about your qualifications. I traveled so much in sport mode that I hurt my back and now I have to wear a special hernia truss for my back. It’s good that the pain has passed and now I feel much better. I advise him all those who have a heavy load on his back.
