Towing rating falls in 2003 Model
Had this post in another thread.. but I guess it wasn't being seen.
I know the LX470 used to have a tow rating of 6,500 pounds. But I just got a 2003 brochure, and it says max towing is rated at 5,000 pounds. Why would it go down? The engine is 5HP stronger.. . new 5 speed auto.. maybe the wheels?? Does having the larger wheels take away towing capacity?? Where did the 1,500 pounds of capacity go??

I thought people here at CL knew their stuff... I guess technical stuff is beyond the general knowledge of a typical Lexus owner.

My best guess is that the '03 model has an INTEGRATED hitch, which may be weaker than an attached/bolted one. The '03 Land Cruiser (no integrated hitch) still has a tow rating of 6500 lbs.
