Safety of using tires with different tead depth?
My wife and I have LX470's. We were using Goodyear triple treads all around but she had a blowout and the tires are no longer available. We switched her tire brand but kept the old ones as spares for me. I now have a slow leak and I was thinking about putting two of her tires on my vehicle. Her tires have 9-10/32" tread and mine are at 7/32. I am thinking of putting 2 of hers on my back wheels.
I called Tire Rack and they said that with all wheel drive a difference in tires may cause expensive damage. They suggested that I call Lexus for an answer and not a dealer. I tried but got sick of being on hold. Does anyone here know the answer?
Thanks,
Dave

I'm not completely sure, but I heard/read somewhere that driving AWD vehicles with different tire treads can damage the transmission.
