Default 2007 lx470

Owned it for 2 years now - very nice car - yesterday while driving the "check engine, and vsc" lights popped on - checked the error codes at AutoZone - came up with P0420 and P0430, which indicate catalyst bank 1 and bank 2 - vehicle has 99500 miles, and serviced every 3000 miles at dealer - engine appears to run smooth and gas cap is on tight - what do you think it is? I'm going to pop the O2 sensors out and check them with and Ohm meter - anyone out there with similar experiences? Thanks, Mike

You can't test an O2 sensor with an OHM meter and may actually damage it trying.

Here is a good thread on the codes:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...97-solved.html

Since you are throwing codes for both banks its possible but doubtful that the catalytic converts are the problem. 100K is nothing on a catalytic converter on today's cars unless you are burning oil or putting stuff in your gas tank.

I would lean towards an air leak (vacuum hose or gasket). Was it recently serviced?

The downstream O2 sensors are each held in with studs and 2 nuts. Good luck with that. I want to change the sensors out (145K miles) but the studs look too badly corroded and I'm not sure how one handles that if you break the studs off - I'm sure in my head it involves removing the catalytic converter. If they threw a code I'd try cutting the nuts off with a dremel or a small nut spitter. While i write this I was thinking you may want to check to make sure the O2 sensors are tight and not leaking by their gaskets.

The upstream sensors are easy. You'll need the O2 removal tool which you can get from from most of the parts palces as a loner. The hardest part will be unhooking the connector. Whatever you do, don't pull on the wiring. Use Antisieze compound on the threads only. If you get it on the sensor it will not work correctly.

Thanks for the reply - since my last post I took it to the dealer and confirmed that the Bank 2 (passenger side catylitic converter has gone bad) so I purchased a used cat and ready to install it soon - guess that's the price for keeping a vehicle past 100k - hopefully this will fix things for now - thanks again, Mike
