1998 Lx 470 intermittant starting
aloha, my 1998 lx 470 has been intermittently starting. When it doesn't start it turns over but can't hear (click sound) fuel pump turn on. Also the check engine light DOES NOT turn on when it doesn't start and normally does when you turn key, then goes off. I have replaced fuel pump, battery, EFI or ECD relay, IG1 No.1 relay and IG1 No.2 relay. Also when I was trying different things I would drain old battery (why i got new one) but when I would connect it to charger it would "reset" something and engine light would immediately go on and it would start. I even tried this with new battery and it worked...for awhile. Any suggestions?

Does the 1998 model have an immobilizer module? I have a 2006 and it has a key that will unlock everything, but will not allow the vehicle to start. It will turn over but not start. If you have this feature, you may be having an issue with that component

Try
Try checking the Efi relay in the junction block. See how much voltage u are getting while cranking. The junction block may have excessive resistance inside on that circuit making the voltage low. The socket for that relay may look burned. If that's the case the junction block will need to be replaced.

My 03 LX470, 94000 miles was having similar issues this week. I changed the fuel filter and installed new plugs, cleared the ecu (more than once along the way) and today everything seems to be normal. I no longer get in and turn the key as soon as I can though. I now wait for the lights to all sequence and go off and only then do I turn the key to start. It just seems to make a little more sense this way.

I'm having the same issue with my 1998 LX 470. It starts intermittently and I seem to have the most success when I put the key in and wait for 5 seconds, the steering column adjusts and the red light with the key on the dash disappears. Only then can i start it. Can you tell me how to "clear the ecu"? Where is the ecu located for 1998 LX 470? I'm reading that the capaciters in the ECU commonly corrode after many years and replacing these or the ECU completely may be required?
