470 towing
I had to tow a car from Charlotte to Atlanta . At first i was kind of scared of not being able to pull the car transporter with the car. After reading a few other post on imud, I had confidence in my rig. The load was roughly around 5k pound . The only problem was towing it 4 hr to my house and felt uneasy on the stress it will be putting on my rig. I realized that it was a easy tow . The heavy lx almost didnt feel like it had any weight behind it . It was very stable and I didnt use the od buttom at all. The Interstate was nothing but up and down pavement so had to put a little force on the pedal. The 4.7 does well for towing ,but i will never tow again . I love this truck . I truly felt good about buying the Lx470 instead of the Range Rover . I might get rid of my Ls430 and buy another one ....

I wouldn't try and tow a large load with anything from Toyota. They aren't designed to handle it. If you need to drag something get a 2500 series Chevy Truck or similar rated vehicle. The entire drive line is built to take it especially if you get the Duramax and Allison Transmission. The Toyota's are great for everything else, but if you need to haul a serious load I think you will over stress the design. It might not bite you in the butt right away, but you will be burning up your drive line a lot faster than normal.

lexusls4: The LX470 does well for loads under 6500 lbs with the frame mounted hitch. The 03-05 LX had the integral bumper hitch which would handle up to 5K. If you add the LX frame mounted hitch on those, the LX will handle up to 6500 lbs. With its load leveling AHC the LX is a great tow vehicle. It already has the tow package with HD Alternator and transmission cooler, so I have have had zero problems towing with it. You did the towing properly and the 4 hours is no problem. On light loads I have used OD, but you were correct to not use OD for a 5K load. The 100 series is designed for heavy duty use for at least 25 years, and does so routinely around the world in less favorable conditions than an interstate hwy.
