The 03 has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs., but I have on numerous sites that an after mark hitch can increase it to 6,500 lbs. Is anyone familiar with this? If so, what is the specific hitch that I am looking for.

Probably either a weight distributing hitch, or a class iv hitch (oem is a class iii).

You may increase the weight of what you tow, but you'll still be limited by Toyota's spec for total gross vehicle weight...that's the LX full of people and their stuff, plus the trailer fully loaded. Exceeding maximum gvw can make driving very interesting and may cause premature drive train failures. If you're towing regularly with heavy loads, a diesel truck is a better choice.
