Information on ML Sound System
Hi all,
I recently picked up a 2004 LX470 with 140k from the original owner. They took great care of the vehicle, and other than a couple items here or there I can pretty much daily drive it without worry. The ML sound system sounds rough though, especially the low end. I haven't taken the door panels off yet, mainly because I only want to do that once - taking panels off and on isn't something I enjoy.
I have done a lot of research, but cannot seem to find a concise spec on the 2003+ ML audio system. Does anyone know where that information is?
From multiple sources I have thrown together some info:
I did find the foam repair kits from SimplySpeakers, which might be a good option as long as the coils on the stock ML speakers aren't worn out. Can stock speakers even "wear out" other than the foam?
Does anyone have a guide or info to confirm the above information?
Thanks!
Tyler

- Speakers on front doors (all 8ohm) = (1) 1in tweeter (1) 2in mid-range (1) 6x9in bass
- Speakers on rear doors (all 8ohm) = (1) ?in tweeter (1) 6.5in bass
- Rear subwoofer (12 ohm) = (1) 6in subwoofer

I don’t, but I have been trying to find information as well. There are two threads over on iH8Mud that may interest you- one is the complete replacement of the Nav & ML System with the factory Toyota non-Nav unit and the second is replacing the stereo head & amp with aftermarket.
in addition to refoaming the speakers yourself, there are shops that can do complete rebuilds of the speakers. I had my subwoofer rebuilt by one. There may be a way to use lesser ohm speakers if you wire in a resistor (I think??) but maybe someone with more knowledge than me can weigh in.
where did you find the concrete evidence on the speakers? My reading would indicate the same ohm rating that you state.
Well heck, one of those is your thread, ...

I have done a deep dive of iH8Mud and ClubLexus and neither one have the info I need. I am finally at the point where I want to fix the sound system, so I am bumping this back up. I will probably pull off the door panels later today and see if I can get all this info, but if anyone knows off the top of their head that would be helpful!
