I am picking up a "certified" 2001 LX470 tonite, but the dealer told me today the car only comes with 1 remote key (the master). I called Lexus and amazingly enough, a certified car only requires the dealer to give me 1 remote key (if thats all they have)....so they told me they would sell me one at cost, which they said is $180 (ouch!!!) + programming for free
Are there any other places to check around on prices? $180 doesn't sound like its at cost, but if they have to cut it and program the key, is it even worth getting the uncut remote from another place?
Thanks in advance,
Will

You can find the uncut master keys sometimes on ebay and you can program the key yourself (search electronics thread under key programing) but you cant get the key cut at you local hardware store. In my opinion i would just bite the bullet and buy it throught the dealer, it will save you alot of time and money. You may want to ask for a better price on the key since you are buying an expensive used car from the dealer.

Try to go to the www.lexus-parts.com. It is little bit cheaper there. They will cut the key for you and you can program it by yourself.

Just got a re-blade remote key (used) for my IS for $85. The guy was really cool and service was amazing. His email is wolftng@hotmail.com.
I lost one of my 2 remote keys and needed to get a replacement just in case. The local dealer wanted $170+tax. The sponsor dealer within club lexus wanted $150+. eBay was selling them (blank blade) for $70+ (and u have to find a local lock smith that can cut it for u). This guy (Wayne) was so easy to deal with that I just sent him 2 pictures of my key and he was able to cut a key for me. No hassle!

Really?
In the fall of '01 we bought our first Land Cruiser, a "certified" '98. The Toyota dealer told us they would try to locate the second key/remote. Once they couldn't, they just gave us a new one at no cost.
