Hello all,
I'm thinking about adding another Lexus SUV to the family and would like your recommendations. I like the body style of the LX470 but I'm not opposed to the GX. What I'm really looking for is the year and package model for either based your experience. Any help you can provide will be appreciated. Also, I'm trying to stay under $15,000 for the purchase. Thanks!

I personally prefer the 2003-05 because they were the modernized versions but before the VVT found in the 2006/07 models. I prefer the LX because I like its mass and the tailgate which I use constantly for various things, the GX was a deal breaker because the swing door (hinged on the wrong side so hard to load from curbs) but they are a bit more practical in terms of size, getting in and out of tighter spaces, slightly better MPG but overall less capable than the LX if you plan to do any off roading whatsoever.

I own both. An 03 GX and an 06 LX. Personally I really like the GX. But like @CloudCity states the rear door can be a PITA occasionally. Other than that I feel it's as capable off road as the LX. I haven't used the LX off road mind you but I did own an 07 FJ Cruiser and IMO the GX is as capable as the FJ. I used both off road. At any rate you can't go wrong with either. They are both comfortable and capable vehicles that you can take anywhere with confidence. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
