most dealerships will charge 1 hour of labor such things, even if it only takes 5 minutes.


I'll never understand someone using a dealership to do something like change a light bulb, (or anything other than warranty work for that matter)

I just had this discussion with my 26 year old niece who paid $130 to have a tail light changed at the dealership and it would have literally taken her 3 minutes to do it her self, and $5 for the bulb at pep boys. Hell pep boys and o'reilly's will change it for you for free if you buy it there.

I worked at dealerships as Tech for nearly ~20 years. 1 hour labor is typically the minimum charge for anything. some dealers might charge for 30 minutes, but they are few and far between in my experience.

Always ask what their hourly labor rate is before signing, and always ask if they have a minimum charge.

I'm not trying to defend the Lexus dealership, but $110 is not that bad in the sense that if this was a Range Rover, the bill would have been 2 to 3 X more!!! Conversely, IF HAD you GONE to a Toyota dealership, it probably would have cost you half (or sometimes the parts counter person will help you put the light bulb in depending on each Toyota dealership's policy. My local Toyota dealership put on the rubber wiper inserts after I bought it there).

You can always ask and get a quote before you commit and shop around.

I agree with the other poster that this can be done very cheaply for around $20 or so. But remember, unless you got the EXACT OEM matching bulb, more than likely you will need to replace in pairs so they match. Also places like Pep Boys will usually help you install the light bulb if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

Changed mine today, drivers side 20 min with removing the battery and $10 car quest H1 bulb.
