Considering buying my first LX470; Am I paying too much?
Hello. I am considering buying a 2000 LX 470 w/195k. This would be our families first. Our goal is to drive it once or twice a week and take it on trips to the mountains for overlanding. It looks to be in great condition, inside and out. Drove it and AHC worked well, everything worked well.
It has lots of work done to it:
New Steering Rack
Suction and Return Hose
Fluid and Alignment
New Timing Belt
Water Pump
Idler Pulley, Crank Shaft Seal
Tensioner Pulley
Drive Belt
Coolant
New Passenger Front Axle
Serviced Front and Rear Differentials and Transfer Case
Oil Cooler O-ring replaced
Is $12000 too much for it? What would you pay? Is this a good deal?

I love how non lc100 enthusiast value the lx470. Go to ih8mud and ask this question. View used car pricing on cars.com cargurus.com autotrader.com etc.
12k is a bit high but you will not find a lc100 for 5 thousand in that condition

The trade in value for this vehicle is a about $4000. Granted the owner has done the required repairs and maintenance. The original cost was $55K US if I remember. I would say $5000K or $6000 might be worthwhile. This LX has 195,000....that is a lot to pay for a 20 year old vehicle. We had this model LX, was very nice....will say that the saving grace is that you are in Arizona and not in the rust belt areas.

I see tons around here going between 10-20k. Thinking with all the work done to it that it may be okay.

I have posted in ih8mud and haven’t had much traction. This would be my first LX. I have had 3 different 4Runners but wanted to try this or a LC out. I’m thinking I just give it a go.

Normal logic pegs this at 4k, its after all a 20 year old vehicle.
LX/LC logic is speculation based, so you have to account the reseller tax. The following is not advice on price, but historically folks will consider this a deal and pay for it, especially the condition of the undercarriage is rust free. Its one of those explainable unexplained mysteries of life.
Good luck!

"Normal logic" does not apply to Toyota body on frame 4x4 trucks.
compare the price of any used Tacoma, Tundra, 4runner to similar year mileage trucks and see the "Toyota tax" is real.
Why are 20 year old Ferrari 360 modena still 80k?
There is a strong following for land cruisers, the lc100 have actually been stable/increasing in value as the available stock keeps dwindling.
if you want a land cruiser cygnus (lx470) expect to pay a premium for one in good shape.

Is $12k a lot? Yes, but is that around the going rate is for 100 series of this age that aren't rusty and in good shape? Absolutely. $4-6K will get you one with a horrible interior/exterior and/or a lot of rust.

That's a pretty normal price. Those not accustomed to the 100 series will under-value it when compared to those who are more familiar. The LX is a flagship built to last and I'm not sure there's a comparable model in the rest of the Lexus lineup in that regard. Long after the OEM leather and trim was worn away, the LX is still a very capable and sought after chassis for reasons that don't diminish much with age.
IMO, verifying no rust is the more important thing. You can fix most things on that rig for a worthy pricetag, but rust is not one of them.
AHC globes cost around $1k to replace and are the only significant "wear" item on the suspension. If you can't verify they are good, plan on them needing replacement for $1k + labor.
Personal taste thing here, but those wheels are hideous and don't fit very well. I'd subtract $1k for that alone.
