Hey guys, I'm new to the board and not quite a Lexus owner yet. I've had my eye on the 2nd gen LX470 to tow my Yamaha AR190 boat and I found one locally that I might be interested in picking up. Issue is that the car doesn't have a factory hitch or wiring harness. Was there ever a tow package option on the 2002's? I would have to have a hitch installed along with a 7 pin wiring harness to connect to my trailer. Does anyone have any experience with adding a hitch to their car that could give me a few pointers? Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Hi Bluedyno. My 05 470 has a tow package on it but it too does not have a separate frame mounted hitch. It has the wiring harness, oil cooler larger radiator and a access hatch in the rear bumper. I believe there were two tow ratings.
5,000lbs and something more than that. The lower rating was for a frame mounted attachment behind the bumper access plate. Remove the plate and and there are 4 bolt holes and one square hole in the rear frame crossmember to attach the frame mounted hitch attachment that Lexus sells. If you have an access plate, lift it up on the bottom in the center - there is a little tab and the plate will come out. If the 470 your looking at doesn't have an access plate then you may need a separate under bumper frame mounted hitch. All the Lexus towing packages were "port installed". I don't know if they were standard issue on all the 470s.
