We have an '21 RX350 and '07 SC430.
I want an LX to pull a camper around the country....there is no sticky here for me to read.
I need some smart LX folk to let me know what year is best to look for towing upto 5,000 pounds up and down mountains.

This will give you a start on models from '96 to '07.

Models from '08 to '21 give you a V-8 with a lot more power if you're pulling 5K. You also get more transmission ratio's, bigger brakes, etc...downside is more money. 200 Series LX and Land Cruiser

We pull a 3-horse Charmac up and down northwest mountains without a problem...that's about 2/3 of the 7500 max. weight for a trailer. Cruise control wiring is already installed for you to add your controller. For a 5000 lb. trailer, I wouldn't consider anything else.

We tow our 17' Casita Spirit Deluxe with our 254K mile '04 LX470. It tows this 3000 lb. camper effortlessly. Towing in 4th gear (5 speed OD transmission in '03 - '07 models) we saw 10.5 mpg going up and down the hills from Little Rock to Gulf Shores and back (~1000 miles). We're planning on doing a Rocky Mountain trip sometime in the next couple years and are led to believe it'll get about the same mpg's. We found the seats to be extremely comfortable and the ride relatively smooth with the hydrologic suspension.
