My 2015 has 151,000 miles. I've replaced the front rotors and brakes, and the drive belt.

I don't think you can go wrong with any year. If you buy a relatively old one, it will be cheaper, and you'll have funds left for fixing whatever may be worn out on it. If you don't want to be bothered with it and preferer to have it as fresh as possible, then you can buy 2021. Best to make sure it hasn't been in an accident, because at that point all bets are off (unless you know the previous owner and find him/her trustworthy).

Make sure that the automatic height leveling system has been serviced as recommended. Check the top of the radiator fro signs of a developing crack. And make sure the ML sound system is working properly. IMO the model year is not critical, but newer is better so you have any improvements. But f you are not a big admirer of the cow-catcher grille design, go for a low mileage earlier model. - the spindle grows and grows and grows over the years.

The 2016 model has the stupid white line on the HUD which looks unnecessary. Some first year refresh glitches also exist on some 2016 models. Better go with 2017 and on.

Starting with 2019 the backup lights are LED (you can visually determine it with LED light housing being narrower than the pre-2019 halogen light housings)
