Default HVAC Code 42

Hello - I have a 2011 LX. When I start the vehicle, the climate control "auto" light is on but no numeric temp is displayed on either side. If I press "auto" or the down/up button, nothing happens. The only way to get it to work is to press "off" while starting the engine, sometimes. I was able to do an HVAC scan and got a code 42. Any ideas on what that might be? Any experience?

Thanks!

Hello, this is exactly what happens to me, when I start the engine, the auto button comes on and doesn't let me control the air until it turns off. If you solved it please help me. On the other hand, the code B1442 refers to the servo motor that moves the recirculation gate. It is often broken or dislodged when trying to change the cabin filter without putting the air into recirculation.

Hi, I believe I solved it. The cabin air filter wasn't seated properly. Once I took care of that, everything started functioning properly.
