How Long Do Brakes Last on an LX570
I have a 2009 LX570 with 36K miles on it. During the most recent service I was told by the dealer that the rear pads have 4mm left (I don't know what that means) and the fronts have 6mm left.
At my last service, 5,000 miles ago they both were measured at 6mm (same dealer).
How could the rears have worn but not the fronts?
They are suggesting replacing the rear pads at a cost of $450.
2 questions: 1) is this an average lifespan for rear brakes (I thought they lasted longer than the fronts)? 2) Is the price reasonable for a dealer?
Thanks in advance

I have an 09 with 48,000 and both front and rear pads have been replaced. Seems odd that rears would wear before the fronts to me also, but it is what it is I guess.
Lexus likes to change when pads get below 4mm. They can probably go longer, but you risk getting into the sensor wire that lights up on you dash - then you have to replace the sensor wire (at additional cost).
If you are at 4mm, I would probably have them changed. I would order pads from Sewell Lexus with the Club Lexus discount and bring them to your dealer to minimize the cost a little ($57.00 vs $93 at dealer). $450 is stiff, but Lexus dealers are not afraid to charge. I am sure they will replace the pads, shims, turn the rotors, ect. If you could find an indy shop - cost would be less - but I would probably let the dealer do it if I had experience with them (or did not know someone else I could trust to do it properly).

It is not that hard. Definitely will save you tons of money if you take care of the small jobs.

Alright, i know this is an old thread, but here it comes...my brakes are starting to squeak abit but the sensor is not coming on yet, so here is my question:
I have a GX 470 before with no brake sensor, i dont think...does the LX 570 have it?? Just to confirm...
Not to be cheap but can i buy a set like these through Ebay cause i try a set for my previous GX 470 and it works well...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-COMPLETE-F...774f16&vxp=mtr
So does that mean if i get this set above, i would need to purchase the brake sensors from like Seawell Lexus??

They are a forum sponsor and give a discount to forum members. Substantially less than Dealer pricing. I have dealt with them many times and never had an issue. Also - why rotors?
