i agree a lot with yipster222, though i am not sure on the tranny. my gut feeling is if too many gears, it's hard for the lx to mainly a good gear selection for its demanding off road requirements. and of course we know the gears affect the gas mileage in some way.
having more cargo space with 3rd row up is warranted too i think. also i think it would be better if the 3rd row folds flat, which likely also help to create better 3rd row leg room. just look at the gl. i know a few people who chose the gl over the lx because the 3rd row is more functional.
also for the rses, instead of the roof fold down, i personally like the setup in the 2010+ gx more

I've been waiting to trade up my 7 yo GX to the LX until the 3rd row seats in the LX are removable, or distant second choice, they fold flat. We took the 3d row seats out of the GX the day we bought it and they sit in the basement even now. We need space for stuff in the back, not people.

Removable 3rd row seats
slightly smaller size
three locking differentials
slightly smaller engine, or diesel engine option
better quality, nicer looking interior
completely redesigned exterior- more upscale, back to the LandCruiser roots that made the LX happen
better approach and especially departure angles

Many of the functions above plus updated telematics. Just typing in an address On ghe navigational system can be painfully slow due to "lag" required between pressing each key.
As far as the 3rd row, useless to about 90% of this vehicle. Lexus needs to really rethink this. Even if you had kids, you would have to hate them to put them back there.
An 600hp hybrid option!
