Default Why

I am looking for a 570 and I see a lot of base models. I want something that I can drive to the mountain for the ski season. Would a base be okey or I would have to look for a AWD kind?

Huh? All LX570 models are 4WD.

I think there are referring to standard model (not the sport). Please ask the seller.

LX is based on the LAND CRUISER 200 which means it is very capable off road, very reliable and robust.

All of the LX's come standard with off road tech and full-time four-wheel drive with low range and a torsen limited-slip locking center differential as well as height control ( low - normal - high and an even higher mode for when you ever get stuck and put it in low range ).

2013 would have the 5 speed crawl control + multi terrain 4wd system + turn assist.
I think on base models you miss out on the cooled center console + no rear entertainment screens and no radar cruise.

Case in point, the LX is definitely more than capable to drive take you to the mountains in the ski season, very comfortably so.

A base unit will be fine. The add on's for the Lexus are mostly cosmetic - upgraded audio, park assist, upgraded leather, rear seat DVD, etc. Suspect it may be hard to find a "base unit" without one or more of these upgrades. Sticker for a 2015 base model is aboyt 83K, with options could add another 10K.

I think it would be hard to even find a base model. Most I've seen have everything but the radar. I suggest you go over all the options on this vehicle with the selling dealer. They should be able to print out a build sheet that shows all the options. I also suggest you do more research on the 200 series LX570, because you did not even know it was full time 4WD. Which means you know very little about this vehicle.

I agree with Max707.

I do not think you could even find a base LX. The dealers would never order something like that unless it was for a buying customer. They come pretty well loaded from what I have seen.

Maybe the OP is referring to nomenclature like you'd find on cargurus.com? Everything they have listed is called "Base", which as everyone has pointed out is a well featured AWD luxury wagon with all the 4wd capabilities you'll need to "go skiing."

Does the LX 570 offer different packages like Premium and Luxury (like the GX), or all all models fully/equally equipped with the exception of specific options?

Indeed, 'base' is just a widely-overused misnomer for the LX across many websites.

In cases where there are multiple models, a distinction may be warranted (e.g., LS460 and LS460L - standard/base and long-wheelbase, respectively). On the LX, since there is just one model in the US, I have found no connection between the use (or lack thereof) of the term 'base' and the number of additional options on it.

In other words, they all say 'base' or none do. It doesn't mean anything in most cases.

Here is your most basic "base" model. It happens to be 40 miles from where I live, but there is no way I'd give anything near the asking price for it.

I always thought "base" referred to the fact the 200's are like a base on wheels
