There are a couple of ways to fix it. 1. Use a pin tag to clean the bullseye and apply the shield kit repair on. 2. If it is big enough, use the SMALLEST drill bit to drill ( not through to the other side), clean out the debris, and apply the shield kit repair. Make sure it has enough resin to hold itself together.

What brand of windshield kit would you recommend? I found a few on amazon, the best seller was RainX

And, how much would your guy charge for such a small chip/nick? Is he mobile around the Bay Area?

I'll post a picture tomorrow, when its sunny out.

I did not use RainX, it was off the shelf at Pepboys ( cannot remember).

I cannot recall how much. It has been a while and it was not that expensive. Look at their website to see if they are local and call them to see how they would charge. Your insurance would pay for it and you can go any where of your choice ( CA law).

How was the turn out by DIY? Was it good?

If it was, I may just do it with a kit.

It stops the fracture from running away from the bullseye. You still can see the repaired area if one looks carefully. Even the professional do it, one still can see the repaired. It will not become totally invisible, but it serves the purpose from spreading.

Just an FYI, but your insurance will pay for it to be fixed professionally. You can get it done within about 15 minutes.

Here a photo of the chip/nick.

Idk if you guys can get a clear look, but its pretty small. It did not penetrate thru the glass. I guess it nicked the top layer? And did not crack or spread.

Is it fixable with a fill?

I contacted a Co-Worker's friend from AAA, and he said this type of "chip/nick" is not repairable.

I don't think it would not hurt anything to fill it with resin and it would look better too.

I agree with DocT. I have one that is much larger than that one seems and it was filled and has no spread at all. Get it filled sooner versus later. Dirt getting stuck in there can cause the fill not to attach properly.
