i ordered new struts. the tops have the triangular mounting plate attached.

how to i unbolt the the tops from the upper liftgate. they are recessed and look to back into metal ?

They are a PIA to get out. You have to remove the seal around it to make sure you get full contact with your socket. It’s a few screws and a pop off to remove that piece. The bolts on the struts are VERY tight if they are still factory and you can strip them if you don’t have full contact.

You have to remove the rubber trim that is over them. It's kind of a pain and there is a pointless clip that you will most likely break.
You can try pushing it out of the way, but it is easier to remove a few of the screws holding it in.

I already answered this above. Nothing has changed in the method needed to remove them since the last time you asked.
