They are a PIA to get out. You have to remove the seal around it to make sure you get full contact with your socket. It’s a few screws and a pop off to remove that piece. The bolts on the struts are VERY tight if they are still factory and you can strip them if you don’t have full contact.

how to you remove the top triangular piece that is bolted to the hatch ? it looks like the bolts are recessed and cannot unscrew all the way.
You have to remove the rubber trim that is over them. It's kind of a pain and there is a pointless clip that you will most likely break.
You can try pushing it out of the way, but it is easier to remove a few of the screws holding it in.
