First rodeo on this forum. Has anyone tried the TUFF PROTECTOR sold on eBay for their nav screens? Old threads indicate the screens are easily damaged. What is the best cleaning product/protocol? Thanks from 9000 ft elevation.

I would get one of those dry application tablet screen protectors and cut to the size of Nav screen. You can find those on Amazon for a few dollars. Usually, it comes in three lays per sheet. Make sure there is absolutely no dusty on screen before you apply the protector. I clean the screen with windex.

How about a tempered glass tablet screen protector? They are the best for phone screens and act as a sacrificial layer that can simply peel off in the event of damage. The plastic ones will protect against scratches but not much else and certainly not impacts.

Just ordered one as I am picking up my 2013 CPO LX this week. The screen protector was only four bucks on eBay.

Actually I went with the iPad mini screen protector as it has 4:3 aspect ratio and is 7.9" in size.

Considering how apparently fragile and expensive these screens are it seems like a good idea.

What am I missing here? I have 100,000+miles on my 2011 and have never had a problem.

I was thinking the same and have never even slightly damaged to screen on my past LX units. It would take a direct impact to damage the screen and no screen protector is going to help with that. The only failures I have ever heard of was a electronic failure which a screen protector would still not help.

But if people feel the screen is in peril have choices which is always good.

Absolutely, it is designed to be pressed. The only issue is if something strikes the screen. Then, you are out thousands of dollars, where a tempered glass screen protector could actually absorb the impact in many cases (hard glass and energy absorbing), for several dollars.

Had one of those on my iPhone. After a couple of months I pulled it off. Didn't do anything at all for me, just wasted $$$ IMHO.

I agree that it is not "necessary" on the iPhone as it is using harder Gorilla Glass.

That said, I still run one on mine. Just because it is "Gorilla Glass" (nice marketing BS) doesn't mean it won't crack without huge forces required. Cracked screens are quite common with not that much of a drop required to do it. It's still going to absorb impacts and protect the screen better than none, and the one I bought for a few bucks is crystal clear and still has a fingerprint resistant coating. I also run a minimal case - the sides of the aluminum current gen iPhone are the slipperiest surface known to man.

Essentially no drawback for the added protection on a $1000 phone, other than it weighs one additional ounce.
