Default New '17 LX: Drifting + Off-Center Steering Wheel

When I test drove my '17 LX two weeks ago I noticed that the car drifted to the right when I was in the right lane. The sales staff brushed off the issue and said that the 21" tires needed to break in. On a road trip later that week the issue became more pronounced -- the LX would drift to the left in the left lane and to the right in the right lane, not to mention that the steering wheel was off-center. So I took it to a Lexus dealership at one of my stopovers. The tech reproduced the problem. First he cross-rotated the front wheels which didn't help. Then he flipped both the LF and RF tires on their wheels and performed an alignment (it was slightly off). The drifting stopped but the steering wheel was still off center. Fast forward to this week. The shop foreman at one of my local Lexus dealerships (not the selling dealership) figured out the problem -- the VGRS needed to be (re)calibrated. Now the steering wheel is straight.

It's a bit troubling that I had to take the car in twice within 2 weeks of purchase, but happily the problem is fixed!

Having horses at home, I scoop up statements like that every day, dump them in the compost pile, and spread on the hay fields in the spring. Only N5 fertilizer, but horse poop all the same.

If it drifts on perfectly level surface. Roads are slightly curved. Take a service manager try it with you, go out for a test drive. Or go to a reputable independent tire shop in your neighborhood, let them check it out.

I took road curvature into consideration, but like I mentioned the tech was able to reproduce the drifting. When I took the LX to my local Lexus dealership the service manager drove the car and noticed the off-center steering wheel. He conferred with the shop foreman who determined that it was a VGRS issue.

Irishbrahm,

Do you have any details on how the issue was resolved. I have the sam problem with my 16' LX and my Lexus dealership has been unable to solve it.

Thanks

Did you read the first post about moving tires around and re-calibrating the VGRS???

Thanks, no I missed it the first time. My dealer tried everything above except recalibrating the VGRS.
