There is no reason why the current 150 series (sold as Land Cruiser in most EU countries and as LC Prado in Australia) could not be called Land Cruiser!
I still own one LC 120 in Europe (about 14 years old) and I am really happy with it!
But the original topic was about a new LX/LC. So after reading some more articles on the internet, I still think that all of them are wrong and the new Land Cruiser which will debut in Frankfurt is not a successor of LC 200 but the new "small" Land Cruiser - a successor of LC 150.

Hey, 70 series is a Land Cruiser, 80 series is a Land Cruiser, 90 series is a Land Cruiser, 100 series is a Land Cruiser, 120 series is a Land Cruiser ...

Again, the current 200 series is the only one that can trace it's parentage back to the original FJ. Going forward from there, the 200 continues on the same production line and a different factory than the "small Land Cruiser".

This looks that we could get new LX even earlier:

But on the other side, the debut in Europe mans that we can get just a new small Land Cruiser Prado (successor of LC 150). It would make a sense as the current GX460 and 4Runner are also due for a replacement (they are the last Toyotas without Toyota Safety Sense or Lexus Safety System).

Why should they spend monies, times and energy to redesign LX any time soon when there are not lot of buyers, so as Mercedes G Class which has been the same for years because there is not a lot of buyers. Unlike popular RX, it will have a modest face lift with 3rd row seat.

2018 adds Eminent White Pearl and deletes Starfire Pearl, 21" wheels get black inner trim instead of gray, LED reverse lamps, revised RSE cover, power rear door changed to automatic feature, Shimamoku wood trim available, real leather pad for steering wheel, airbag off switch gets a pictogram, and a heater is added to PCS camera sensor.
