Default LX 570 Roof Strength-to-Weight Ratio (SWR)

Anyone know the Roof SWR of the 2017/2018 LX 570?

http://www.thecarcrashdetective.com/...uvs-2016.html/ discuss this in length. But only ID Mercedes, Acura and Mazda as SUV with best SWR: 6.8, 5.8, 5.48 respectively.

But cannot find the Ratio figures for the LX570 in any report. Anyone know? for LX570 (or even the GX?)

Unknown, but you can refer to the IIHS pages on the Highlander and Tundra for reference. The 200 series has a much larger D pillar than the C pillar of the Tundra, so I would expect it to be higher.

I would be more concerned with the relatively poor results of the small overlap test. The Tundra (and 4runner) don't do well in this test, though they perform well in frontal and moderate overlap. So I have my seat all the way back and down for the most distance from intrusion. The door hinge pillar should be redesigned.

Performance on that particular test would be much improved by a HD steel or alloy bumper; but that might actually be more dangerous when hitting a stationary object. So it's a tradeoff.

Also, the frame is both shorter and (supposedly) 20% stronger on the 200 than the Tundra, so it might do a little better. I have not compared the underside of the Tundra, but I believe there is more crossbracing on the 200.

Only truck to get a Good rating on the small overlap so far is the F-150.

@Chocolate: Thank you for the answers.

I did notice there were no finding on the iihs site for LX and GX

I went to the dealers to see a Range Rover (which no roof SWR exist either); then stopped by the Lexus dealer to see the 2017 clearance of LX570 and GX460. Even with the clearance price, they still want $ 83,500 for the 2017 LX570. Undecided. yet.

What do you see is the best all around safety vehicle (in the SUV, Minivan categories) to drive (we do a lot of highway driving in Souther California, with lots of cars driven above speed limit dangerously; so we want a very very safe car).

The Range, while pretty, is known for its unreliability. I would say the LX is a very safe vehicle. Fully boxed frame (Tundra is open C Channel); 6200 lb curb weight unloaded, Check here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/lx-...-pictures.html

Thank you!

I also saw the GX also last night; but the trunk side opening door turned all of us off. (money saving reason?)

So LX is the car of choice. Still so expensive. Over $ 83,000 plus tax, etc. (probably close to $ 90,000)

The GX is a clone of an SUV directed to countries where you drive to the left...e.g., the UK or Japan. If you can define the word "ergonomic", a 2 second glance at the rear door should indicate that it's bass-akwards. You have to walk from the curb around the door to open it...far easier to stand on the curb and simply open the door.

A Land Cruiser or it's child, the LX. Check the 100 and 200 series tech forums on ih8mud.com. Search for wreck pictures. In the majority of accidents there were no serious injuries. The one that impressed me was a Land Cruiser that sheared off a power pole at speed. The driver walked away.

The advantages are simple...body-on-frame v. unibody construction, weight with a full tank and driver runs around 3 tons...definitely on the high side if you notice the majority of vehicles on the road. MB does well in crash testing, but reliability leaves much to be desired. Land Rover? Serious? What could go wrong with a British designed car from India?

As to the price, I tend to get something 1-2 years old from a non-rust prone state and great maintenance records. I prefer to let the first owner eat a bit of depreciation. Lease is great if your CPA agrees.

Definitely get the LX570. UNLESS, YOU HAVE LOTS AND LOTS OF CASH TO BURN ON THE MB OR THE RR.

Reliability on the LX570 IS UNPARALLELED IN THE FULL SIZED SUV CLASS. Safety is on the top tier as well

On our prior gen 2000 LX470 bought brand new we put 280+K miles before we traded it in for our brand new 2013 LX570. Back then we used the LX470 a lot for long distance travels and the LX470 HELD UP WELL without any major issues.

BTW, United Nations buys almost exclusively Toyota Land Cruisers (or it's variants) for it's fleet of vehicles. When they are on mission critical operations and under enemy fire, it makes ABSOLUTELY sense to be in RELIABLE AND PROVEN VEHICLES TO GET OUT OF DANGER QUICKLY!!!

Go for the LX570.......IT IS SOLID!!!

Buy used, you can get a clean low mile certified truck only a few years old for $30,000 off or more. Lexus CPO program just ranked number one in the country. https://www.usnews.com/info/blogs/pr...st-cpo-program It is pretty good, 6 years and unlimited miles from in service date.

Lexus has a $9000 incentive to push out the old 2017 lx suvs since the 2018s are already on dealer lots.
i just purchased a brand new 2017 lx from Lexus of Santa Monica for 80,400 plus tax and license. That’s almost $18K off the $98,200 sticker.

As another data point, I was quoted pre-tax for 2018 Land Cruiser yesterday at $85.6K. Delivery 8-10 weeks with a temporary VIN assigned at Toyota Auto Body.

I was looking at their site again and it looks like the Tundra Extended cab did pretty well.

By the way, I don't know if there's another SUV/Truck with a bigger D pillar than the Land Cruiser. It's huge.
