Brake pad worn out at 20k miles
i just got my car serviced but after 20k miles the brake pads were completely worn down and affected the rotors.
Has anyone experienced this? They said it was common since it’s a heavy car and trying to stop it will wear down quickly.
This is a 2016 Lx570 bought almost a year ago. 1 year anniversary coming December 1st.

it all the depends on how it’s driven. start and stop traffic causes faster wear than if you’re doing Highway, miles 20,000 pretty short I’ve normally got 60 to 80,000 out of set of pads on my Lexus and Landcruiser

Stop and go?
Hills/mountains?
Slippery snow/ice/mud?
Any of the above or all of the above will affect your brake wear.
All 4 corners wore out evenly vs just front vs just rear?
Keep in mind in slippery surfaces, your ABS/SKID electronic control will apply the brakes.
Also if you have PCS with radar cruise control, the system will apply brakes instead of down shift to slow you down as you approach a vehicle in front of you as you cruise along. Hence more brake wear!!!
On my prior gen LX470 I was able to put on a little more than 100K miles before needing a brake job. On my new LX570 currently at some 20K miles, all still good.

most of my driving was highway, like 90/10. However I do live in LA so lots of stop and go traffic at times. Where I live there lots of hills going up and down so I can see it gets worn down much quicker.
It it was just fronts that needed to be taken care of.
Good point on on the radar cruise control; but I don’t use that much unless I’m going long distance like going to Vegas, where I will use it without being interrupted from another car to slow down.

Just got my 2015 LX 570 back from it’s 25,000 mile service and I have more than 8/32 pads front and rear and the dealer said that Pads were almost new. Mine was CPOED at 17,000 miles so they must’ve put new pads on it then because I don’t have any other records of pads being put on unless the previous owner had it done At a non Lexus shop

I already mentioned it at this forum. The software on LX is bad. Comparing to LS, the adaptive cruise control uses brakes more often than on LS. LS prefers downshifting, especially on steep slopes.
So if you are going down somewhere in the mountains and still want to use the adaptive cruise control, downshift manually to 4th gear and keep it there. It helps.

Yes!!! YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!
LAST time we were in CO mountains.......I noticed our LX kept braking when we had the PCS cruise engaged. I then use lower gears to slow the LX down without using the brakes.

I love the adapted cruise control especially in LAs bumper to bumper traffic. No more gas, brakes, gas, brakes.
if the cost of that convenience is changing the brake pads every 20k miles or so then I’m ok with it. My 2010 lx did not have dynamic cruise control and my original brake pads lasted 50k miles.
