Rear Liftgate - out of alignment
Just went for my 75k service. Everything looked fine, except the automatic lift gate wouldn't close itself (though could be closed manually, and the lock would latch and engage). Dealership says the door is out of alignment and to take it to a body shop.
Anyone else experience this, and if so, can I re-align it myself or do I really need to pay a body shop $100 to do an alignment.
Thanks

Does it open normally? If so, it may be the sensor for the tailgate is faulty, and it's telling the upper door that it isn't closed like it needs to be to allow the upper door to power and close. If the upper door is somehow not aligned properly, I'd think that it would try to close but fail to latch. If it powers open, and you can easily close it manually the out-of-alignment idea sounds a bit strange.

The rubber gaskets around the edge of the door contain sensors and if the rubber contacts the side of the opening the door won’t close automatically in my experience. I had some body work done and this showed up. Quick trip to the body shop and I was good to close.
