The old rule that the vehicle must be "new" is no longer true with the new Trump administration.
I believe the vehicle in question just have to be "new" to the owner taking this tax advantage. The vehicle can not be transferred from inside the family. So if one buys from a "stranger/private owner" or any car dealer will work (does not matter if the vehicle is brand new or ten years or older). Just got to be over 6000 pounds. This tax advantage works mainly for "business owners". If you are employee on W2......I don't think this will work.
Buying old vs new..... Buying new (vs old of the same make and model for comparison) will get you more "deductions" bc you spent more (vs old). It's just whatever you are comfortable with and if you got a great deal on an old one.....then by all means go for it.

Lots of names for what I do. I have been called a crank mechanic, geriatric proctologist, pecker checker, and a lot of other things that can't be typed in a public forum. I do my best to keep everyone coming and going
