Default 3rd Row Seat Mystery Pieces

Does anyone know the purpose of the 2 removable pieces (pictured here at the top portion of the 3rd row seats)? I have a 2011 LX570.

Those are for covering the holes in the floor when the seats are folded up.

Never knew this, and it's on pp 77-78 of my 2013 Owner's Manual. I've been using the seat hooks as tie down locations when I carry long pieces of lumber that hang out of the tailgate.

Thanks for the info.

How difficult/expensive is it to have the rear seats removed entirely? I don't have kids and never haul more than 3-4 people at one time. Seems like wasted cargo space for something I'll never use.

I thought the same, and ditched the 3rd row on both our LX and Land Cruiser. You'll need a 14mm wrench or socket and about 20 minutes if you're doing it the first time.

Thanks Hankinid. Are they hydraulic? Is there anything special that needs to be done beyond turning a wrench? Seems silly to lose cargo space to something I'm never ever going to use.

Someone recently revived this 7 year old seat removal thread. It’s now just a few lines down on the last posts screen.
