Default 2013 LX570 Timing Cover Leak

Just got my first service done at the local Lexus dealer after purchasing from a different dealer this week. Lexus says I have a pretty decent oil leak at the timing cover. Cost to repair is $3,211! Lots of labor. Does anybody know if this is a common problem? I didn’t see much when I searched. I am holding off on the repair until I know more about it. Hope to learn on this forum.
Thanks in advance!

Not unheard of, not common. Pricey. Not something I want to change, but I check for leaks at each oil change. Not to mention if I see spots on the driveway.

These are search results from the 200 series tech forum on ih8mud.com...probably not what you want to see. I hope they help out a bit on the $$$ and hassle involved.

Did you purchase from a Lexus or Toyota dealer? Any warranty come with the truck? Do you have a "Lemon Law" in your state?

Not to add insult to injury, I'd also check out the link for "cam tower leaks"...infrequent but make the timing cover feel like a walk in the park.

Please update and good luck.

hankinid, thanks for these references. I will look further at these! I just purchased it this week from a Maserati / Fiat dealership. No warranty. I usually never buy them (I now regret that!). I think there is a lemon law in WA state....
Will keep you updates as to the path I take.
Cheers!

@riles200...see the change in post #2 from "timing cover leaks" to "cam tower leaks"...fingers to brain connection somehow disrupted.

Most dealers allow you to purchase a warranty within 30 days, But it wouldn't help now as the issue has been documented,

Pa has a 3 day no questions asked return law. Meaning they have to take it back regardless.

IMO... like stated above not necessarily common but happens...when shopping for used models with 1UR-FE (4.6L) or 3UR-FE (5.7L) make sure to check for oil leaks around timing chain cover and the cam towers (both sides). In addition... potential coolant leaks caused by a failing water pump or coolant valley plate under the intake manifold.

I assume the timing cover leak on the 5.7L is the same as the 4.6L. This is a good article.
