So I purchased two sets of Michelins my last go a round for tires. LX570 tires are shot and went exactly 20k miles. My LS430 also needs tires and they went 25k miles. Rotated every 5k miles. No aggressive driving or country roads. As a kid my tires would last 50 and 60 k miles. This designed-in obsolescence that the engineers have formulated is worthy of a congressional probe. Sad, that we have allowed tired companies to do this to us.
My set of Michelin lasted (and still going about 36k, tread about 5/32nd left. Probably another 10-15k...and yes tire rotation every 5k, 35psi, normal driving 25% city 75% highway.
IMO, uphill / downhill / city driving will run the tires down faster. Weight the vehicle carries also important. Are your tires wearing fairly evenly?
We get 50-60K on each set of tires on the Corolla, 40-50k on the Sienna. On the Lexus(s), it has been 30K or less............ I think power & weight factors play a role in tire wear.
An often discussed subject and I trust you have searched and read extensively. Plenty of both informative and/or venting posts on ih8mud.com, lexusownersclub.com, and here on
clublexus.com about tire selection and tire wear.
When you were a kid, and your tires lasted 60,000 miles, were they radial tires? There were not radial tires during my kid-hood, and I did not get my first set of radials until 1968. With radials since then, I have typically gotten around 40,000 or more miles before replacements were needed. I am on Lexus number 6 at this time. The exception to long tire life was Lexus #4, an IS-C, and the manual clearly said that it had performance radials and to expect significantly lower tire life than standard all weather radial tires. The initial set there lasted around 15,000 miles.
What specific tire models and sizes on which vehicles are not living up to your expectations?
I just bought some 18" wheels and LT Tires with 16/32" tread depth so I'm hoping these wear a lot longer than the 20" All-Seasons I had on before. If anything, the ride is better, not harsher on the LT285/65/18's

That's strange. I get 40-55k miles out of tires on our LX and LS. I've owned 3 LS's and have had our LX for 5 years - I don't think I've ever gotten less than 40K out of a set on either vehicle.

Which models specifically? Different tires have different wear ratings.
Combine not the best tires with a bastard-sized 21 inch wheel and that's what you've got. Toyota should have left wheel size at 18" or 20" max., allowing a huge selection of good tires. Wheels in 21" are not common and Toyota's bolt pattern and size are not exactly common.

My thoughts exactly. Once my 21” Grandtrek PT3A’s wear down a bit more (21k miles on them now), I’m buying some 18” Michelin Defenders for the five 18” LC take-offs I recently bought. I can’t see spending close to $2,000 for another set of Grandtreks (qty 4). I’ve had good results from Michelins (LTX M/S, LTX M/S 2, and Defender) on our 2001 LX and 2003 LC over the years.
Thank you all for the comments. This is the second set on a 55k mile LX that is driven mostly in town on short trips by my wife. The wear is even and the Lexus dealer rotates them every 5k miles. I just thought these high end Michelins would do 40k + My dealer mentioned that I would be looking at tires during my next service and then my wife came home from a wet trip and said she could not believe how "squirley" the LX was at high way speeds.
Maybe I missed it OP, do you have 20" wheels? I was looking at tires for the 21" but was only seeing summer tires from Michelin and they were expected to only last 20k miles
