Hello,
I managed to rack up a ton of miles on my 2016 LX570 (110k) and have had an intermittent error code pop up on my dash a couple of times a month over the last year. In the last couple of weeks it has increased to 3 or 4 times a week, mostly in the mornings:
In the past the dealer said they would need to see it when it was happening and I could never reproduce it. Now of course its easy to reproduce - I actually drove it in and showed them while it was blinking when I brought the truck in for service.
They went from asking for a $95 diag fee to scrapping that and now asking for a $175 diag fee saying they needed to do a "Deep Dive".
I am okay with this, but I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue either on the new gen LX or an older one?
P.S.
I had posted a long time ago that I was never really happy with how clunky the transmission felt when shifting in traffic. (ie. Between 20 & 30 MPH.) I reported this during warranty but the dealer after many looks said it is normal function and expected from a 4 wheel drive system. "Just a little Play" in the system.
'Deep Dive'? WHen u first flagged your tranny shift concern and the dealer gave you the look, did they even noted down your concern in the RO and their diagnostic result(s)? How long ago was this concern reported? I am not sure what the 'good will' cut off mileage is for Lexus (someone here knows??).... usually once the warranty expires but mileage still w/in the cut off (or the MY), dealer can still do a good will.
When I have been to the dealer, the diagnostic fee is based on their hourly rate and expected time. They always quote one hour, then if they need more time they will let you know. I hate dealers.
Well they just got back with me after keeping the truck for almost a week. The service rep said they think it was electronic connection issues under the middle console due to soda residue etc. (yuck!) They saw connectivity issues prior to cleaning and after cleaning they haven't been able to reproduce the problem and connectivity looks better. They also said they cleaned up some things underneath the vehicle, though I don't remember exactly what they cleaned there sorry.
So I am off to pick it up - hopefully they really did fix the issue and it doesn't pop up tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed!
Here's a copy and paste of the work done from work order:
DIAGNOSTICS PERFORMED AS REQUESTED. FOUND SWITCH BINDING AND CAUSING POOR COMMUNICATION FOR DIFF LOCK ACTIVATION. POSSIBLE FAILING SWITCH OR POOR CONTACT IN CIRCUIT
COMPLETE INSPECTION COMPLETED, REMOVAL OF THE 4 WHEEL AND LEVEL CONTROL ASSEMBLIES, INSPECT AND CLEAN ALL CONNECTORS AND PINS RELATED TO MAIN SWITCH, ROAD TEST IN DEFERENT WEATHER CONDITIONS(RAINING,SUNNY) COMPARE WITH THE SAME OTHER VEHICLE , VEHICLE IS WORKING PROPERTY WITHOUT FAULT.
"ROAD TEST IN DEFERENT WEATHER CONDITIONS(RAINING,SUNNY) COMPARE WITH THE SAME OTHER VEHICLE , VEHICLE IS WORKING PROPERTY WITHOUT FAULT." - Did the tech really do that? LOL.
In the military and commercial flying machines world, you always start troubleshooting electronics by checking and cleaning all the connectors. Far cheaper to replace interconnect parts than black boxes.
Update on this a couple weeks after getting the LX back. The problem is definitely resolved, so I guess I am just a slob and spilled too many drinks down the center console...
