Default Stripped drain plug

Hey guys,
I have stripped/rounded front diff drain plug of lx570 2008, spare is days away.
Im thinking about welding a hex 10mm driver and try to take it off.. what do you suggest?

Thanks and regards
And all have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful covid free new year.

Tack welding something on is usually the best option, sometimes it takes several weld attempts. I can usually get them off by hammering in a torx bit but it does tend to sacrifice the bit.

Thanks mate, more than willing to sacrifice the bit. I suppose till I get the spare I can put it back on after the oil change ?

You could but then you risk not being able to remove it again easily.

Replacement plugs should be available at any auto parts store.

With a fresh washer you should be able to tighten it enough to seal...and use a 2nd new washer on the replacement plug. I'd buy 2 plugs as the same pn also fits the transmission.

Ok, I just tried heating the plug and then cold chiselling but no good, looks like my last resort is to weld... what if that fails too ?

Have you tried http://www.lcool.org/forum/index.php...6775cf08146afb ? They may be able to provide some local knowledge.

^^^^^ This

If you can get a straight shot @ it. I'd hit it w/ a 1/2" AIR GUN w/ a quick trigger finger. You get 1 shot w/ this method. After that then you are welding onto the plug.

Don't heat the plug, heat the diff case around the plug. You want the hole to expand and let go of the plug threads, vs. the plug threads expanding and getting tighter.

It's going to heat everything. I had an issue with an o2 sensor. Let the engine run a little bit until the pipe was warm/hot, and then unscrew. In any case, I would suggest to sacrifice a bit. If not, get some locking vice grip in combination with heating. But I would wait until I get the new plug before try removing the old one. Patience will get you through.
