LX 570 - Battery replacement what gives?

I just upgraded from a 2nd generation LX 470 where replacing the battery did not involve removing this new TANKlike casing that covers even the dip stick. What do have to look forward to when the battery dies?

I have removed the clips from both the left and right side covers. They don't seem to move and I can easily pull them if I need to access anything.
