Curious what your experience is with the tie downs?
There are tie downs and recovery points on the 200 series LC and LX. The recovery points are rated for around 7300lbs.
All after market recovery points use the same 2 bolt locations that Toyota provided in the frame.
J-shaped replacements for the Toyota ship hold-downs. The ones I use are 3/4" in diameter with 1/2" thick steel mounting area, mounted to the frame. They're from a late 1990's Chevy Suburban. Bolts are grade 12.9 metric...if you're not familiar with metric fasteners, that's as strong as you can get.
The factory recovery points are pretty sturdy and should work fine for the type of off-roading you will be doing.
If you have an early model version you will have 2 recovery points on the front and 1 in the rear. The later year LX's only came with 1 front and 1 rear recovery point.
You can buy the factory recovery points and bolt them in if you only have 1.
If you want some aftermarket ones PM me on IH8MUD, same user name.
Actual recovery points are on all 4 corners...much different than oem tie downs.
This is from Toyota: "As per the Owners Manual the front and rear tow hooks are used to hook the vehicle to tow truck or pulled for vehicle recovery, the hook is holding the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating : weight of the vehicle plus weight of the cargo plus occupants and additional vehicle equipment) which should not exceed 7275.0 lbs."
Will the hook fail exactly at that point? Maybe, and if so, it might be to protect the frame from damage. What is the point of putting stronger points\bolts, if the frame can't handle it in the first place?
I couldn't get the GMC hook to hold more than 5,000lbs even when increasing it 7/8" thick.
Toyota will hold more than 7300lbs.
Note the tie down incorporated with the factory recovery point. Did your 200's not come with these?
I watched this youtube channel "Suv battle" that compared the LX with Range Rover, GLS, X7, etc. Both the RR and GLS conquered offroad effortlessly (surprising for GLS!) but the LX struggled quite a bit (same for Land Cruiser in another video.)
2009 LX570, 152K miles, been overlanding the Mojave for about four years since I rescued this beast from a garaged life in Beverly Hills, with several 40-50mph all day across the desert trips. Thanks to AHC, and good line choice, I've never scraped the side rails but recently noticed that the high speed stuff tends to bead blast the bottom side. I'm looking at removing the factory side rails and installing the SLEE kit with the AHC protection.
