Thumbs up Took my LX for the first family road trip - 3,000 miles in 6 days - Thoughts...

Ended up taking my 2016 LX with a top carrier across the plains, into the mountains, into severe rainy weather, and back home into the heat. The LX performed flawlessly! The comfort was amazing for all passengers in the seats and the ride quality is exactly what I would expect from a LX. Braking was excellent also in the steep mountain ranges of the Rockies and the Radar Cruise Control was a feature sent from god because it saved me so much adjusting the speed and kept officer friendly off my back. Believe it or not, one of the most impressive things was that even with the car carrier on top, I was able to get my highest MPG (on 87 octane) @ 16-17MPG. I've never gotten higher than 14-15MPG before. I was honestly expecting to get about 12-13MPG on this entire trip with the carrier and speed limits in certain areas being 80MPH. Another family favorite for the trip was the cooler box. Having cool drinks along the way was great. Filled it up in the morning with some Starbucks cold bottles and then later with water bottles...excellent decision by Lexus!

The only gripe I did have was the lack of storage inside. Given the size of the vehicle, I thought they have provided better storage in the doors, center dash, rear seat, etc...

If that's my only gripe, I can definitely live with it because the rest outweigh everything else by quite a bit. Can't wait for the next trip!

EDIT: Just to add, I'm comparing this road trip to others I've taken in other cars that I've owned: Many different BMW 5 series, 7 series, Lexus GX, Lexus LS, Audi A6, Acura MDX, Toyota Highlander Platinum, Mercedes R500, Mercedes E/S. Beats them all!

My wife and I annually travel to and from our winter home in the Coachella Valley in California...about 2000 miles each way from home. We travelled in a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser a couple of trips but for the last four round trips we traveled in our replacement 2018 LX570 (two row). Note we moved to Lexus because of the two row...we wanted/needed the extra space and had little to no need for the third row. The LC was our third and we loved them all and moved to the Lexus LX somewhat hesitantly as we liked the style and did not particularly covert the Lexus extra luxury items as we felt the LC had LOTS of luxury. We dod trailer a lot and have a Minnesota North woods cabin so use the other features the LC is famous for...just a bit

Well, after 4 years with the LX I have to admit we have enjoyed the quiet, ride, transmission and other "luxury" comfort items that come with the LX. We are not suffering when compared to the 3 LCs we owned prior. I will add though that if LC comes back with a new LC. version of the current Lexus LX 600 not sure which we would want...assuming each were offered in two row version. I guess that speaks clearly for our personal enjoyment of both LC and LX experiences, TomMartin

I was also surprised when I took our 2021 LX on its first long highway trip (having had it for a few weeks and averaging 12-14mpg in town) to see it giving us 18.7mpg for close to 350 miles (filled up right before getting on a highway and didn't fill up again until the low fuel light lit up), then another 350 miles back at similar fuel economy. My average speed was 75-80mph. Very impressive considering I owned a GX460 before and I was happy when it gave me 19.5mpg on the same trips.

Just did palm beach county to ct and avg about 16.5 doing 80 in my '21. Not bad but my excursion diesel used to do the same at 80. Upside is is the hwy ride is great, totally happy as a hwy cruiser.

Just drove back to fl, did 850m in a day, reg 87 octane, speedo said I averaged 77mph (including 2 ten min stops for gas) and avg 16.5mpg. not bad considering half the trip was done at 85+.

I read that the big LX doesn't handle too well in crosswinds. What's your road trip experience like in windy conditions? I like going to Palm Springs, Calif in winter and it's VERY windy there. I'm looking at a '17 fully-loaded LX for $56k.
I drive 65-70mph so hopefully will get a higher mpg!

Cross winds & high speed twisty highways sport mode is your friend. 90% of the driving we do w/ this car is highway @ 80mph +, I'm in sport mode almost all the time. Seems counter intuitive to "firm" up the suspension but it rides much better & really not any rougher. In comfort mode it tends to wallow in the corners & rocks side to side after hitting bumps @ speed.

I just drove from SoCal to Vegas and back. The recent windy/rainy conditions in the desert didn't affect at all. Averaged about 17mpg keeping it under 80mph and had to deal with some traffic. Kept it in "Comfort" mode because I like the sudden acceleration than the sluggishness when I'm in "ECO" mode. I love the V8 growl and torque when attacking the hills.

All in all, a great long road trip cruiser. All my passengers fell asleep and they all agreed the ride is smoother than the Mercedes GL450 we traded in for this rig. Ironic since the Mercedes had 19" wheels while our LX has 21 inch OEM dubs.

LX 570 is very good for long road trips. We had 3 adults and 3 teenagers on a Grand Canyon trip starting from the Los Angeles area. We attached a big Thule rooftop carrier. Drove Route 66 had a fantastic time. Air conditioning system kept everyone comfortable! Imagine that.
