Default KDSS on LX570?

Hello peers,

I have a 2018 LX570 and for the past 4-years I thought the LX in using the KDSS system, just as Land Cruiser. It is only up to my attention recently that the LX uses AHC and AVS instead of the KDSS.

I then did a little research but can’t find out if is there a distinct difference between AHC/AVS and KDSS or not. Therefore I wish to ask here what exactly is the difference between KDSS and AHC/AVS both functionally and from an engineering perspective?

In addition, my friend asked me a good question recently. Pretty much all Lexus models have the auto hold (or as known as brake hold) feature, but why not the LX570? Are there any technical difficulties that resulting Lexus cutting off this feature or it was just for budget saving?

Best

Hello,

Your LX has AHC and AVS

AHC allows you to raise and lower your vehicle at the flip of a switch. (low, normal High)
There are other modes that are not user selectable (extra high)

The system will also:
Auto level, even when towing a trailer
Prevent diving while braking
Help with body roll

AVS lets you control the amount of damping the suspension has. (comfort, normal, sport)
This is an active system that continuously changes depending on a lot of different variables.

KDSS is not on the LX, only on the Land Cruiser
It hydraulically links the front and rear sway bars together and through a series of valves will allow for better articulation than static sway bars. KDSS will not compromise on road handling either.
KDSS is strictly a mechanical system.

Which system is better?
Pros LX:
Height adjustment
Damping adjustment
Anti dive control while braking
Auto level
Cons LX:
Slightly worse articulation than the LC
Complex system might leave you stranded if one of the components fails (will leave you on your bump stops)

Pros LC:
Will articulate slightly better than the LX
Won't leave you stranded if a shock blows a seal
Cons LC:
No Height adjustment
No damping adjustment
No brake dive control
No auto leveling

Hope this helps!
