I have had a Mercedes Benz GL 350 CDI (2011 Modell) for 4 Months. When you compare the GL with the LX 570 you can forget the GL. The only thing which is better on the GL are the brakes.

The LX 570 has a complete different driving culture than the GL and the LX570 is a much better SUV.

The off-road behavior of the LX 570 is much better and the LX570 is not so sensitive in respect to electrical system. For instance the Battery of the GL is located under the driver seat. Unbelievable for an off-road SUV to locate the battery underneath the driver seat. When the car gets into water for sure you will have a problem. Two feet of water and you can scrap the GL.

Such a layout is a clear miss design by MB according to my understanding.

Do yourself a favor do not buy a MB-GL please buy a LX 570 a much better SUV!

(Sorry, I can not up load the picture that I would like to show here!)

The TRD Air Filter Box does not fit into the LX570!

You have to use the standard Air Filter Box with the TRD Air filter that comes together with the TRD Supercharger!

Installation of the Supercharger on my LX570.

It is a pity that the the TRD Air Box does not fit into the engine!

However, as stated here before the power of the car is very impressive and complete sufficient.

For two years I was reading that TRD will made the Supercharger available for the LC200 and LX570! Up to now it was not happened and I believe it will not be happened.

Why? This is the secret of Toyota!

For supercharged LX570 you have to install either Brembo or TRD Brakes.

The standard stud bolts need to be replaced because they are too short! I have used an adapter.

This is very important!

My friend who owns a Nissan Shop here in Thailand has installed my TRD supercharger into my LX570. I preferred to use his shop, because the have done a lot of supercharger installations to the Nissan sport cars!

The long Doug Thorley Headers THY 560Y1- L-C were installed by a local Exhaust Shop. This is the same shop that have fabricated the tailor made performance exhaust system including an X-Pipe.

The 22 inch wheels with the Toyo Tires 305/45/22 were installed by a local tire shop.

For the ECU control we have installed the Unichip. The tuning was quite difficult and time consuming. But for sure Unichip knows what they are doing and how to do it!

After now almost for 2 year with all the modifications made I can confirm not a problem at all from the supercharger! The car runs very fine!

I have had one other issue with the LX570 that was the DTC 2443 came up. This is the same story that was happened to the Tundra which was discussed for more than 2 years in the Tundra Forum! As I read there somebody was saying that maybe a modification of the Exhaust could lead to this problem. However, this DTC 2443 is not a problem and I will not replaced the valve since is it stuck closed and the AIP system does not have any influence to the engine. If the DTC comes during the start up I just clear it.

Here is the link and a system schematic from the tundra which is the same as at the LX570:

I've talked to a dealer's service department about this and it's good to see it has been done. What octane do you need to use? I'm looking at adding a SC to my 07 911, it would be awesome to have both vehicles supercharged!

I had the previous version Land Cruiser and it always annoyed me that TRD never made the SC available for that vehicle. Same here, I've called them and asked. I can't understand (and they can't explain) why they don't make the application available, it's real easy incremental revenue for them given its already developed and only needs to be chipped and have plastic modifications to make it available.

Thanks!

Don

Hi DenverSC

Since you are living in the USA it should be quite easy for you to get the TRD SC installed! As I stated before the tuning with Unichip was in my car time consuming! But maybe Unichip US can do it faster!

As I have read one time I believe it was in the IH8MUD Forum some car owners from Saudi Arabia have written that they have installed the TRD without Unichip and no alteration of the ECU! However, I can tell you for sure that without the Unichip the TRD SC will give you only 50% of its power.

Here in Thailand I use Gasohol 95 which is a mixture of gasoline and 5% Ethanol. The car runs fine and no problem at all!
