What Is the Purpose of This Tail Light Section?
This area of the LED taillight does not light up. It is not brake, turn signal, or reverse lights. I turned on fog lights too just incase like some European cars there is a brighter red fog light on the driver side. Nothing lights up.
Is it part of a non-US LED turn signal? Is it brake force (stronger braking causing a brighter secondary light to come on)? Any ideas?
Thank you.

Mystery solved. They do NOTHING.
Just lazy engineers who use the same light essentially on the Land Cruiser, where the mystery section functions as reverse lights. On the LX, reverse sides are on the sides of the license plate, where they create glare and poorer still visibility when viewing the back side through the rear camera at night.

The lights are not the same but they are nearly identical, and likely interchangeable (unlikely they would build different body panels). The mystery portion is the reverse light in the LC. They don't have the ones on the sides of the license plate.

I have the 16 LC. The inner lights do not light up either. Looks like there are LEDs, but inside each is an empty hole. The only thing from inner lights that works are the reverse lights and the horizontal glow lines when lights are on.
