I dumped the 21's and went with Toyo AT II's on 18" Tundra wheels.
I agree, low profile tires give shallow tread depth, stiffer ride, smaller contact patch, weaker, higher price, I could go on. This is a heavy truck that benefits from sidewall especially if you ever want to go offroad.
If you are not a serious offroader the stock OEM tires and wheel look good and perform quite well.
Only one tire maker makes that size for now.
AND they look so much better
21" may perform quite well but highway 18" tires will still be more comfortable, cheaper and allow using LX for some light offroading. Generally, low profile tires may have some advantages like handling and stability but this is not BMW M3 or Porsche 911 so there is no difference at all. On SUVs like this, low profile tires have just disadvantages even while driving on highways only.
If you want to do more offroading and still keep your LX highway friendly, you can try something like Michelin LTX A/T 2. This is probably the most highway friendly AT tire. It's still probably more comfortable on highway comparing to 21" tires. I use these tires (275/65R18) on '16 Land Cruiser 18" wheels (quite cheap on eBay).
I still think that tires like this look much better on a body on frame SUV with a solid rear axle which was originally designed for quite difficult terrain (yes, they put some expensive leather, wood, electronics etc. on it later but it did not change its character so much).
Standard OEM wheels are 20" and come shod with Michelins, seems perfect to me. Unfortunately, LX are mostly ordered with the 21" by dealers, sort of like the omnipresent, obtrusive rear seat entertainment screens. YMMV.

My oem's were iirc Michelin Latitude II's. Though the each had the little snowflake emblem, they were "interesting" in melting snow and slush. I ditched them for Toyo AT II's on the original wheels, and a set of Blizzaks mounted on 18" Tundra takeoff's.
Awesome in inclement weather.

Yes, you are right. I could probably live with 20" if not used offroad. 21" wheels is a nonsense. I haven't seen '16 LX with 20" wheels yet.

Not a fan of the 20" OEM Dunlops on the 2008-15 LX (I don't believe you were either). I don't know if these 21" Dunlops are any better, but I just have to say this thing is beautiful. Very nice photo!

Thanks very much. I would not change a thing about it. Have got more compliments on my 2016 LX than any LX I have owned.
