Default Toyota Will Replace 100,000 Faulty Engines in the Tundra and Lexus LX

https://www.motor1.com/news/727930/t...-tundra-lexus/

Toyota is stepping up for 2022-2023 Tundra and Lexus LX owners. In May, the automaker issued a recall for certain Tundra and LX600 vehicles with the twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine. A fix wasn't available at the time, but now it seems there is no fix aside from just replacing the engine. And that's what Toyota will do.

The recall affects 102,092 vehicles—98,568 Tundras and 3,524 LX600s. The problem is debris in the engine resulting from the manufacturing process that wasn't properly cleaned out. Any debris in an engine is bad, and as you can probably guess, this is bad enough to cause the main bearings for the crankshaft to fail. If this happens while you're cruising down the highway, it could lead to some obvious safety issues, hence the recall. Fortunately, Toyota is not aware of any injuries relating to the problem. But recall documents show 824 engine warranty claims that could relate to the issue.

mine is a 3/22/23 build date. Called Lexus today and they said there is no recall on mine because it falls outside of the recalled build dates.

I’m very happy because I absolutely love my LX.

My 2022 falls under this recall. This is obviously the only way to resolve this but I'm not going down this path. It just feels like a future problem.

Instead, I am trading it in for a 2024.

if mine had fallen under the recall that’s what I was going to do myself.

Default Started the process

Since my 2022 is under recall I started looking into this a few weeks back. I contacted my original salesman and put a deposit on a 2024 which is due in about 6 weeks.
I contacted service manager and even though Lexus has not formally issued notice for repairs he said an engine replacement would take 2-3 weeks.

I was provided a GX loaner until the 24 LX comes in. I took the 22 LX off the road. I didn't feel it was safe to drive.

I requested same from dealer (discussed ay length with GM ) but only offered an Enterprise rental and a low allowance on that. I need the bigger SUV and towing capability so I am driving the LX. This dealer is part of large company with dealerships and brands across entire country. They have lost any idea of "customer service/satisfaction" and between my wife and I we have bought at least 12 lexus either LS, GX or LX since 1990.
This may be my exit from Lexus if it doesn't go well.

My brother has had loss of power 3x and engine chugs with his LX in the last 6 months. Unfortunately his LX was built 1 week (1st week of Dec) after the recall end-date so this will be interesting as his dealer told him nothing is wrong with his vehicle and is NOT affected by this recall.

I advised him to have an oil change and have https://www.blackstone-labs.com/ perform an analysis on a test sample, which he is doing soon.

just curious, after having a GX loaner, would you buy a new GX 550 over the LX ?

Incorrect—those dates are only for the Tundra:

My loaner is a 23 GX 460. The engine is a dog and the materials are a big step down from the LX. Even closing the doors does not get you that satisfactory solid thunk of the LX.

I would expect the GX 550 to be somewhere between the 460 and the LX. I've seen them in the dealership, the 550 is nice but the interior is still well short of the LX IMO.
