Buying your own Oil (Mobil) Vs using mechanic / dealers Oil ?
Hi,
For my Lexus Rx350 F sport 2013 model its time for oil change.
Usually I go to Toyota dealer and have them change the 0W-20 synthetic oil change with filter. Dealer uses their own oil.
My car oil change is due now and this time I'm planning below , let me know your thoughts:
Buy Mobil 0W-20 synthetic oil at Walmart. Buy Toyota genuine Oil filter at Walmart .
Give the above items to WalMart auto service and have them change the oil & filter for me.
They charge around $25 for labor and use customer provided oil & filter.
I'm not worried about cost ( parts + labor) , but atleast know for sure I used genuine Mobil 0w-20 and oil filter
in this scenario.
My question the oil what the Toyota dealer uses versus me buying my own oil Mobil 0w-20 in Walmart are any different ?
Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your time.

Mobil blends the TGMO. There isn’t going to be a big difference between the TGMO and base Mobil 1 oil. They are slightly different and not 100% identical, but both are solid oils and from the same source.
There are multiple formulations of Mobil 1 - base Mobil 1, High Mileage, AFE, EP, etc. If you sprung for the EP, for example, you would be getting something a little better. If the dealership is using TGMO, you aren’t getting anything really different in the scenarios you describe, so choose based on cost and convenience. Dealerships, AFAIK, are not required to use TGMO, so ask to verify.

Invest in a good FT. Lbs. 3/8 drive Torque wrench. Oil drain plug replace the washer and torque to 25 to 28 ft lbs. Oil Filter Housing Torques to 20 ft lbs. and the Filter Housing Drain plug should torque to 10 ft lbs.
You don't want to over tighten the filter housing or plug because it could warp and cause more problems. The O-rings do the sealing and should have a light coat of oil on them. The reason why the filter drain plug torques less is because it needs to be removed before the housing removal. You will get a small plastic piece to push in the bottom of the housing to drain the oil. I find it works better if you remove the O-ring if it sticks to the bottom of the housing before trying to push it in.
Note: The only other brand of filters I will use are the WIX or NAPA Gold that are made by WIX. Plenty of reviews on YouTube.
