KYB same as OEM shocks?
I’ve researched this issue quite a bit and read a number of posts. It seems the general consensus is that KYB manufactures shock absorbers for Lexus. My question is this. Does KYB make Lexus-only shocks that get installed at the factory? In other words, if I buy KYB shocks from rockauto.com, are they identical to the KYB shocks to get installed when the cars are built?

They are not the same, the one KYB make for Lexus will have different specifications than the one on Rockauto, but Rockauto ones are still excellent, I bought them, I 100% recommend, unless you have the dollar to get it the oem from the dealer, it's about 50% more expensive.

Pole Position
I’ve been using KYB exclusively since c.2010, in quite a few vehicles of mine and family. No regrets, ever. Put a set in the rear of an 09 GS last weekend and they feel great. I have an ES with 100k on a set (installed 2014) and they still feel good, no issues.
Go with them, you’ll be happy.

Hi everyone. I emailed the question to KYB and here’s their response:
The aftermarket shocks usually have around 10% higher damping than OEM.
So yes, they are a tad firmer.

I just received a call from my service advisor regarding my right front shock absorber. They told me that the shock needs to be replaced as well as the upper and lower mounts. I’m familiar with the upper mount, but I was not aware that there was a lower mount as well. Does anyone know what this is?

Okay, I have some additional information. The three parts are the shock absorber, the support (I assume this is the top mount) and the actuator (which I assume is related to the AVS system). I’m not sure why the actuator would need to be replaced unless it was no longer working, right?
Total estimate for parts and labor is $1,500 for the front right corner.
