Question on coolant

Question on coolant
OK, I've been searching, and have yet to find a definitive answer...
First off, what type of coolant is the car supposed to take? "Green stuff" or "red stuff"? You're only supposed to run the type of coolant the manufacturer recommends - running the wrong coolant can damage water pump seals and gaskets, since it's not compatible with the opposite formula. Read a big tech article on coolant in Motor Service some time back .
My coolant looks like wet mud - it's awful. Next big project is to totally drain, flush, and re-fill the cooling system. I also have yet to find notes on where the block drain plugs are on the SC300 - it's gonna be necessary to get all the crap out of this engine .
I'm gonna try and change the thermostat in the not too distant future as well - lord knows how gummed up that sucker is.

I don't like the "red stuff". GM and toyota run it off hand. I think in '96 plus models the base changes for envinronmetnal concerns. It has been linked to corrosion on gaskets (at least from what I've seen) contrary to what is stated. I've seen the GM 4 cyliners and 22re's with badly erroded head gaskets. I always switch over to the "green stuff". I haven't had any problems. Glycol based is glycol based though regardless of color. That is what I prefer wether it is a sound conclusion or not.

Color is not as important as regularly changing your fluid is. We use the "Red Stuff" and like any car, it will do damage if you don't change it atleast every 30k.
Your drain for your block is on the left side of the block (You are facing the car) in the rear. You should see a small nozzle sticking from the block with a small bolt over it. Loosen that bolt and the fluid will run from the nozzle.
