![Question](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I have been told no by the CPO literature (provided to me from prior owner) to yes from the local Lexus dealer in his neighborhood. The car itself still qualifies (10 months remaining) and I was told for a fee (by dealer) that the warranty is vehicle specific, not owner specific.
To clarify I am the 3rd owner, the second owner bought the 98 GS 4 CPO.
Thanks for any help.
Doug

Def not man, and dont let anyone sell you that crap. I bought a CPO car from Lexus, and it says it right in the CPO literature that they give you, CPO warranty not transferrable (sp)

I too have seen the CPO documents and they're not transferable. Its possible they used to be. I was taking with a guy with a 99 SC400 for sale which he bought CPO in 2000. He swears the document he has allows the warranty to be transferred. I never saw it.
I've also heard that, for a price, a Lexus dealer can certify a customer car. While some many have figured out how to bend the rules, Lexus say that only cars the Dealer has in HIS inventory for sale can be certified.
Now there are Lexus warranties that are transferable. The initial bumper-to-bumper and drivetrain warranties cover the car no matter how many times its been sold as long as some owner hasn't screwed it up. Lexus (Lexus Financial Services, Lexus Extra Care) also sells extended warranty packages called Platinum, Gold, Powertrain and Certifiied which are NOT transferable if purchased with a used car. The Platinum, Gold and Powertrain warranties are transferable ONCE if purchased with a new car. While some of these names sound like those Lexus uses for its basic warranties (Powertrain and Certified) they're not the same. These extend the coverage beyond the limits of the initial warranty. Obviously this causes some confusion.
I hope this doesn't further confuse this question. The basis CPO warrranty is not transferable.

I negiotiated a refund from my initial purchase price from this particular buyer. We both assumed (we know what happens there) and a lesson has been learned by both parties. In addition, did you guys know that extended warranties are not availible in the State of California. Something with regard to Sacramento, but, you cannot purchase extended warranty coverage in this state.
Thanks for the input.

I'm seriously thinking of purchasing a 98 or 99 SC 400 from a private party, since I've read here that the warranty is not transferable between owners, if I were to bring the car into a Lexus dealership, what kind of warranty would you buy if you were me buying this year car? I wanna sound like I know something so I don't get taken for aloop. What price for an extended warranty would I be looking at from the dealer?
